What are Bluesky handle rules?
Bluesky handles must be 3–18 characters long and can contain letters (a–z), numbers (0–9), hyphens (-), and underscores (_). Handles cannot start or end with a hyphen. Periods and spaces are not allowed in the basic handle format.
How does a Bluesky handle work?
On Bluesky, your handle appears as @yourhandle.bsky.social — for example, @alice.bsky.social. The full handle includes the .bsky.social domain suffix. This tool validates the part before .bsky.social.
Can I use a custom domain as my Bluesky handle?
Yes — Bluesky supports custom domain handles like @yourname.com. This is one of Bluesky's unique features. This tool validates the default .bsky.social handle format; custom domain handles follow different rules.
Can I change my Bluesky handle?
Yes — you can change your Bluesky handle at any time from Settings → Change handle. If you previously used a .bsky.social handle, it becomes available for others after you change it.
Why does this tool say 'appears available'?
