YouTube handle questions
- What are YouTube handle rules?
- YouTube handles must be 3–30 characters long and can contain letters (a–z), numbers (0–9), underscores (_), hyphens (-), and periods (.). YouTube handles are unique identifiers that appear as @handle on your channel page and in search results.
- What is a YouTube handle vs a channel name?
- A YouTube handle (e.g., @MrBeast) is a unique identifier used in URLs and to tag creators in comments. A channel name is your display name and can be any text. Handles must be unique; channel names can be shared by multiple creators.
- Can I change my YouTube handle?
- Yes — YouTube allows you to change your handle twice every 14 days. Go to YouTube Studio → Customization → Basic info → Handle to update it.
- Is my YouTube handle case-sensitive?
- No. YouTube handles are case-insensitive — @YourBrand and @yourbrand go to the same channel. However, YouTube displays the capitalization you use when you set the handle.
- Why does this tool say 'appears available'?
- Postlia validates your handle against YouTube's format rules only. We cannot check real-time availability — only YouTube knows which handles are taken. After validating here, open YouTube and search for the handle or go to youtube.com/@yourhandle to check.
- Can I use hyphens in a YouTube handle?
- Yes — hyphens (-) are allowed in YouTube handles, unlike on X (Twitter) or Instagram. This gives you more options if your preferred handle is taken. For example, @your-brand is valid on YouTube.
