What are Twitch's username rules?
Twitch usernames must be 4–25 characters long and can only contain letters (a–z), numbers (0–9), and underscores (_). A username cannot start with an underscore. Periods, hyphens, spaces, and other special characters are not allowed.
Can I change my Twitch username?
Yes — Twitch lets you change your username once every 60 days. Go to Settings → Profile → Username to rename. Your channel URL changes with it, so update any links you share elsewhere.
Is my Twitch username case-sensitive?
No. Twitch stores usernames in lowercase, but your display name can use any capitalization of the same letters — for example the username streamerpro can display as StreamerPro.
Why can't a Twitch username start with an underscore?
Twitch reserves leading underscores at registration. You can use underscores anywhere else in the name — my_channel and channel_ are both fine, but _channel is rejected.
Why does this tool say 'appears valid'?
Postlia validates your username against Twitch's format rules. We cannot check real-time availability — only Twitch knows which names are taken. After validating the format here, open the twitch.tv link or try to register the name to confirm availability.
What happens to inactive Twitch usernames?
Twitch periodically recycles usernames from accounts that have been inactive or were never used to stream. If a name you want is taken by a dormant account, it may become available in a future recycling round — there is no way to reserve it in advance.
