Frequently asked questions

What are the PSN username rules?

PSN Online IDs must be 3 to 16 characters, start with a letter, and can only contain letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores. No consecutive special characters or ending with a special character.

Can I change my PSN username?

Yes. PlayStation allows you to change your Online ID. The first change is free; subsequent changes cost $9.99 (or $4.99 for PS Plus members). Go to Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Profile → Online ID.

Will changing my PSN name affect my games?

Most modern games support the name change. However, some older games may have issues with leaderboards, saved data, or in-game items. PlayStation shows a compatibility warning before you confirm.

How do I check if a PSN name is available?

The most reliable way is to attempt the name change in your PlayStation account settings or check during PSN account creation. This tool validates format only, so it can't check live availability.
