Discord username questions

What are Discord's username rules?

Discord usernames must be 2–32 characters and can only contain lowercase letters (a–z), numbers (0–9), periods, and underscores. Consecutive periods (..) are not allowed. Uppercase letters, spaces, and other symbols are rejected.

What happened to the #1234 discriminator?

Discord removed four-digit discriminators in 2023. Every account now has a single unique username (lowercase, no tag) plus a separate display name that can use any characters. This checker validates the new unique username format.

Can I change my Discord username?

Yes — go to User Settings → My Account → Edit Username. You can change it at most twice per hour, and the new name must be unique across all of Discord. Your display name can be changed freely.

Why can't my Discord username have capital letters?

The new username system stores every name in lowercase so each one is globally unique and easy to type. Use your display name for capitalization, spaces, and emoji — it sits on top of the username.

Why does this tool say 'appears valid'?

Postlia validates your username against Discord's format rules. We cannot check real-time availability — only Discord knows which names are taken. After validating the format here, try claiming it in User Settings to confirm availability.

Why is there no profile link for Discord usernames?

Unlike Twitch or Instagram, Discord has no public profile URL for usernames — profiles are only reachable inside the app via friend requests or shared servers. That's why this checker validates format only, without an open-profile button.
